HISTORY IN THE MAKING:
Not 4 Years, For Life!!
Let's divulge into a little background information and history of the fraternity. First, one must make the distinction
between the beloved word "Frat" and the true term "Fraternity." Frats are usually a bunch of drinking buddies who hang
around and simply drink. Fraternities are much more...
Lambda Chi Alpha is one of the largest international fraternities in the world, with over 300 chapters and colonies
worldwide. This includes more than 235,000 alumnus brethern worldwide, not including current undergraduate brothers.
Founded in 1909 by Warren A. Cole and two other law students, Lambda Chi Alpha began its trek to its standing in today's
society beginning with that first group of students at Boston University in Boston, Massachusettes. As of 1912, it became
a national fraternity with an installation at the University fo Massachusetts, University of Pennsylvania, Penn State,
Brown, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Over the years, it continued to grow and became an international fraternity with its installation of the Epsilon-Epsilon
chapter at the University of Toronto. They even opened their arms to the Theta Kappa Nu Fraternity, whose numbers were
drastically decreasing and were on the verge of extinction. And to this day, they are still honored through Lambda Chi Alpha!
Lambda Chi Alpha was the first to abolish the pledge factor and made the first step towards the ideals of NO-HAZING, something
many fraternities have yet to steer away from. Instead, students who wish to join Lambda Chi Alpha will go through an
Associate Membership term, which lasts a good portion of a semester. This status grants those students every right that an
initiated brother has, excluding the vote for their own initiation. They may hold offices, vote on important topics, and even
be president of the colony/chapter.
